Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main trends, but the analysis is often inaccurate or poorly supported by the data. For instance, you state that the refrigerator and washing machine reached 100% after 60 years, which is not clearly supported by the visual data provided. Furthermore, the description of the housework hours is somewhat confusing, as you mention '50 hours' in 1920 and '20 hours' after 40 years, which lacks precision. To improve, ensure you accurately interpret the specific data points and provide a clearer overview of the relationship between the rise in appliances and the decline in housework time. The summary is present but lacks the analytical depth required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inappropriate, such as 'On the other side of the chart' or 'after the several years ago'. Referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the connection between the appliances and the housework hours. Paragraphing is present but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks flow, with sentences appearing as a list of observations rather than a cohesive analysis. Improving the use of linking words like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast' would help improve the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic phrases such as 'the percentage is highly increase' or 'the percentage of using a rapidly increase'. There are issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'much down' instead of 'significantly lower' and 'they all are depend on' instead of 'they are dependent on'. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary, including more precise verbs and nouns related to trends (e.g., 'fluctuate', 'plateau', 'decline', 'proportion'). The current range is just enough to communicate the basic meaning but lacks the flexibility required for higher scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with verb tenses and sentence structure. For example, 'People use less vacuum cleaner in 1920' should be 'People used fewer vacuum cleaners in 1920'. You also struggle with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'the percentage of household' instead of 'the percentage of households'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors that impede clarity. Focusing on consistent tense usage (past tense for historical data) and improving basic sentence construction will significantly enhance your score.
