Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified the main trends, the analysis is underdeveloped. You have provided some data points, but the comparison between the two charts is weak. For instance, you mention the decline in hours spent on housework but do not explicitly link this trend to the rise in appliance ownership, which is a key requirement for a high-scoring Task 1 response. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview and include more detailed comparisons between the variables.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as 'Moving ahead' and 'At a fleeting glance'. The progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the third paragraph where data points are listed without clear logical flow or effective linking words. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of transition signals to connect your sentences and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You use 'uses' and 'increased' frequently, which restricts the range of your writing. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'alters' (should be 'changes') and 'calibrated' (which is not used correctly in this context). To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', or 'a significant surge', and ensure you use words in their correct grammatical context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('refrigerator uses enhanced', 'washing machine uses grow') and preposition usage ('remained same on 100%'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and article usage.
