Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the trends for appliance ownership and the inverse relationship with housework time. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, the description of the washing machine trend is inaccurate, as the data shows a steady increase rather than a 'fall in years 1960 to 1980'. Furthermore, the report lacks a clear overview paragraph; the summary is embedded within the body, which is a structural weakness. To reach a higher band, you must ensure data accuracy and provide a distinct, concise overview of the most significant trends at the beginning or end of the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by mechanical transitions and repetitive phrasing. While you use some cohesive devices like 'initially' and 'contrasting', the connection between sentences is often abrupt. The paragraphing is also insufficient; the second chart is introduced in a very short paragraph, and the overall structure lacks a clear introduction and a distinct overview. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'the usage of different electrical appliances... have been illustrated', where the subject-verb agreement is faulty, affecting the clarity of the progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic verbs like 'shows', 'increased', and 'maintained'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'time duration of the usage' and 'tenure of 1980 to 2019', which sound unnatural. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', or 'a downward trend', and ensure that your terminology is used accurately to describe statistical data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'usage... have been illustrated'), incorrect prepositions (e.g., 'from fron 40%'), and punctuation errors, such as missing capital letters at the start of sentences and inconsistent spacing. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence structure will significantly improve your performance.
