Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 1.0

The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for a summary of charts regarding electrical appliance ownership and housework time between 1920 and 2019. However, the student has written about visitor numbers to 'Caryl Island' between 2000 and 2008. Because the response fails to address the task requirements entirely, it cannot be assessed on the accuracy of data reporting for the intended prompt. While the student attempts to describe trends, the content is irrelevant to the provided visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs with some attempt at logical progression, using transition signals like 'Turning to the details' and 'Moving to the rest of the details'. However, the referencing is problematic because the content does not match the prompt. The cohesion is mechanical, and the abrupt ending of the final sentence ('returning') indicates an incomplete thought, which disrupts the flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for describing trends in a graph, using terms such as 'increased dramatically', 'fell initially', 'sharply dropped', and 'consistently increased'. However, there are spelling errors such as 'untill' and 'increard'. The range is limited and repetitive, and the misuse of terminology regarding the subject matter (writing about visitors instead of appliances) limits the ability to demonstrate a sophisticated range of vocabulary relevant to the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'in between 2000 and 2008' (incorrect preposition), 'had rose' (incorrect tense), and 'visitors were counted nearly 12000' (missing preposition). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect capitalisation, such as 'The cardyl island'. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors is noticeable and occasionally impedes the reader's understanding.
