Percentage of households with electrical appliances (1920-2019)
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The one line graph illustrates the proportion of households with electrical appliance such as washing machine, refriherator and vacuum cleaner while the other line grapph gives us information about the amount of hour spent on doing housework like washing clothes, preparing meal and cleaning in households in a particular country between 1920 and 2019.
Overall, there was a gradual rise in possession of electric appliance in households from 1920 to 2019 while there was a steady decline in number of hours was spent doing housework. It clearly indicated that, with the rise of the electric appliances, households work became less time consuming.
In 1920, there was 0% refrigerator in households and then there was a dramatic increase in possesion of refregerator from 0% to 100% over the period.Washing machine started from 40% and rise to almost 72%. On the other hand, vacuum cleaner had a similar trend like refrigerator, started at 30% and in 2000 became.
We saw number of house hold work became less time consuming which was 50% in 1920 and then had a gradual decrease and 2019 it standed on 10%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the trends in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the data reporting is inconsistent. For instance, the vacuum cleaner data is incomplete ('in 2000 became'), and the description of the housework hours lacks precision regarding the specific data points. While the overview is clear, the lack of detail in the final paragraph prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure all data points mentioned in the prompt are fully described and that comparisons between the two charts are more explicitly linked to show the inverse relationship.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'there was a...'). The transition between the appliance data and the housework data is abrupt. Additionally, the final sentence of the third paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the flow of information. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, complete topic sentence and that ideas are connected smoothly across sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are frequent spelling errors such as 'refriherator', 'grapph', 'possesion', and 'refregerator'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone of the report. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors like 'rise' and 'decrease'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accurate spelling and incorporate more precise academic vocabulary, such as 'fluctuated', 'surged', or 'plummeted', to describe the trends more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the number of hours was spent' (passive voice error), 'it standed on 10%' (incorrect verb form), and '0% refrigerator' (missing article/noun phrase). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice for data reporting. Proofreading for basic errors like 'standed' (should be 'stood') is essential for higher accuracy.
