Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Percentage of households with electrical appliances (1920-2019)
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The line graphs illustrate the proportion of electrical appliances and number of hours spent per week in private dwellings in a particular country from 1920 to 2019.
Overall, it is clear that percentages of households with electrical products experienced an increase over the entire time period, whereas time spent doing housework saw a significant decrease in the same time frame. Furthermore, Refrigerator and Vacuum cleaner appliances were recorded at same percentages in last.
Looking at the data in detail, the Refrigerator started at almost zero in 1920, before rapid increase and hit a peak of 100% at 1980 and stay flat at this level by the end of time frame. On the other hand, Vacuum cleaner was at 30% and Washing machine at 40% in initial year, respectively. Moreover, Vacuum went up relatively till 2000 at 100% and Washing machine hit the highest at 70% in 1960 and fluctuated till 2000 and ended up at approximately at 73%.
Regarding number of hours spent per week in domestic homes which includes washing clothes, preparing meals and cleaning, it started at 50 number in 1920 and first decreased rapidly by 1960 and after this saw a slightly drop till 2019 and ended up at lowest value of near by 9.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview. You covered all three appliances and the housework time data. However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you stated the refrigerator reached 100% in 1980 and stayed flat, but the graph shows it reaching 100% by 1980 and remaining there. You also mentioned the vacuum cleaner and refrigerator were at the same percentage at the end, which is correct, but your description of the washing machine's peak at 70% in 1960 is slightly imprecise as the graph shows it fluctuating. Ensure your data points are cited with greater precision to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'Regarding', which help the flow of information. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'in last' which is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within the second body paragraph could be improved by using more varied linking phrases to connect the trends in appliance ownership more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'dwellings', 'fluctuated', and 'significant decrease'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and phrasing, such as 'at 100% at 1980', 'in initial year', and '50 number'. These errors occasionally make the text sound unnatural. To improve, focus on collocations (e.g., 'at the beginning of the period' instead of 'in initial year') and ensure that your vocabulary is used with more precision to describe trends and data points.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with prepositions and articles (e.g., 'at 100% at 1980', 'at 30% and Washing machine at 40% in initial year'). There are also issues with verb tense consistency and missing articles, such as 'saw a slightly drop' instead of 'saw a slight drop'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and prepositional accuracy.
