Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear or accurate summary of the data. The description of the trends is confusing and often factually incorrect based on the provided charts. For example, the statement that the refrigerator was the 'most popular activity' is nonsensical in this context. The data points mentioned, such as '0 to 100 people attending', are irrelevant and do not reflect the percentage of households. The overview is weak and lacks a clear comparison between the two charts. To improve, you must focus on accurately reporting the specific percentages and time values shown in the graphs rather than using vague or incorrect terminology.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is severely hampered by poor sentence structure and confusing transitions. While some cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'on the other hand' are used, they are often placed incorrectly or do not logically connect the ideas. The referencing is unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the appliances and the housework hours. The overall arrangement lacks a coherent flow, and the relationship between the two charts is not effectively established.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very limited and often misused. There are frequent errors in word choice, such as 'activity' instead of 'appliance', and 'citizens' or 'members' instead of 'households'. Phrases like 'was been taking' and 'was initiate' demonstrate a lack of control over basic collocations and word forms. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends accurately, relying on repetitive and imprecise language. To reach a higher band, you need to learn specific vocabulary for describing data trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'decline', 'peak', and 'gradual increase'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There is a lack of control over basic sentence structures, with many sentences being fragmented or nonsensical, such as 'the phenomena of the number of hours of housework per week between 1920 and 2019.' Subject-verb agreement is consistently problematic, and there is an absence of complex sentence structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent. The errors are pervasive and make the text difficult to understand. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement is essential for improvement.
