Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the task by describing the two charts, but the coverage is inconsistent. While you identify some key data points, the analysis is superficial and lacks a clear overview of the trends. For instance, you mention specific percentages for 1920 and 2019 but fail to describe the overall trajectory or compare the appliances effectively. The description of the housework hours is also limited, and the use of the word 'percentage' to describe 'hours' is factually incorrect based on the graph. To improve, focus on grouping data logically and highlighting significant changes rather than just listing individual figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often repetitive (e.g., 'in year 1920... in other years'). The sentences are disjointed, and the lack of linking words makes the text feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive report. To improve, use a wider variety of transition signals such as 'meanwhile', 'subsequently', or 'in contrast' to connect your ideas and guide the reader through the data more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. You rely heavily on simple phrases like 'the use of' and 'in year'. There are also significant errors in word choice, such as using 'inflammation' instead of a word describing growth or change. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied verbs and nouns related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'witnessed a steady rise', or 'declined significantly', and ensure that your terminology accurately reflects the units of measurement provided in the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'line graph showes'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence structures. Many sentences are simple, and there is a lack of complex grammatical structures. For example, 'The use refrigeration in year 1920 is 0 but increase in other years' is grammatically incomplete. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses when describing past trends, and practicing the use of complex sentences to combine related pieces of information.
