Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends for both appliance ownership and housework hours. You successfully highlighted the inverse relationship between the two sets of data. However, the report is slightly let down by some inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you state that 40% of households had washing machines in 1920, whereas the chart indicates a much lower figure. Additionally, the description of the vacuum cleaner trend as starting at 'no households' is not entirely accurate based on the visual data. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference the data points with the axes to avoid misinterpretation, and focus on selecting the most significant features rather than listing every data point.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'Following this' to link ideas. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. The paragraphing is appropriate, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the general overview to specific details. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that the referencing between sentences is consistently clear throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'alterations', 'expenditure', and 'fluctuations'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation. For example, 'electrical equipments' is incorrect as 'equipment' is an uncountable noun. 'Stucked' is a non-standard form of the verb 'stick'. Additionally, phrases like 'time expenditure on household chores' are slightly unnatural in this context. To improve, focus on learning the correct pluralization of uncountable nouns and practicing common collocations related to data description, such as 'witnessed a downward trend' rather than 'experienced downward trend'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include missing articles ('the ratio grew', 'reached at peak'), incorrect verb forms ('stucked'), and awkward phrasing ('accounted as 50'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the use of articles. Aim to proofread your work to catch these minor errors, which will help you achieve a higher level of accuracy in your writing.
