Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, including the trends for appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks precision. For example, the description of the refrigerator trend as 'abnormally rose' is imprecise, and the data points are occasionally vague or missing. While the overview identifies the main trends, the report would benefit from more careful selection of data to support the comparisons, particularly regarding the inverse relationship between appliance ownership and housework time. The conclusion is incomplete, as the final sentence is a fragment.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'Then' to start sentences. Some transitions are awkward, such as 'After vacuum tube became popular', which lacks clarity. The logical progression is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors and fragmented sentences, particularly in the final paragraph. While there is an overall attempt at a logical flow, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the presence of disjointed sentences limit the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'electronic home gadgets' instead of 'electrical appliances' and 'vacuum tube' instead of 'vacuum cleaner'. The phrasing 'abnormally rose' is not a standard collocation for describing data trends. While the student attempts to use descriptive language, the range is limited, and there are noticeable errors in word choice that occasionally make the writing sound unnatural. More precise terminology related to data reporting would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex structures, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The given line diagram illustrate'), missing articles ('use of refrigerator'), and tense inconsistencies. The final sentence is an incomplete fragment ('only 10 hours per week'). While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure prevents the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to proofreading for basic sentence completion and verb forms is required.
