Student answer (Band 5.5)
The line graphs given below shows the fluctuation in ownership of electrical devices and range of time spent doing house chores in a housing society in one country between 1920 and 2019.
Overall, line graphs illustrates the use of different electrical appliances i-e washing machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner, how much they overall consume electricity between the year 1920 and 2019.
Firstly, in 1920 washing machine started from 0 percentage increased rapidly till the year 1960 at 90 percent of household. Then graph increase gradually to meet 100 percent of household till 1980 and remained steady until 2019. As compared to washing machine vacuum cleaner line graph started with 30 percent and raised dramatically toward 100 percent in the year 2000 and remained same till 2019.
whereas, the line graph for refrigerators showed fluctuations in it. The line started from 40 percent in 1920 moved upward slowly till 1960 and dropped slightly from 70 to approximately 61 percent. In year 1980 it raised but not much near 80 percent of total hardly. Additionally second line graph demonstrate number of hours per week used as in 1920 it was about 50 hours per week per household used. It decreased dramatically since the year 1960 to 11 hours per week and till 2019 the decreased to zero.
in conclusion the use of washing machine and vacuum cleaner raised up to 100 percent but refrigerator used moderate. Hours per week electricity used between 1920 to 2019 also declined.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends for appliance ownership and housework hours. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the description of the refrigerator trend is confusing, as the data provided in the text does not accurately reflect the visual information (e.g., mentioning a drop to 61 percent). Additionally, the summary of the second graph incorrectly states that housework hours decreased to zero by 2019, which is a misinterpretation of the data. While the main features are selected, the lack of precision in reporting the data points and the misinterpretation of the final trend limit the effectiveness of the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward transitions and repetitive phrasing. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'whereas', and 'in conclusion', their usage is sometimes mechanical or grammatically incorrect. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when shifting between the two different charts. The paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks the necessary cohesion to guide the reader smoothly through the comparison of the data sets.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of inaccurate word choice, such as 'housing society' instead of 'households' and 'consume electricity' when referring to the ownership of appliances. The phrasing is often repetitive, and there are minor errors in collocation, such as 'raised up to 100 percent' and 'near 80 percent of total hardly'. To improve, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to trends and data reporting, such as 'plateaued', 'fluctuated', or 'a significant proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'line graphs illustrates'), missing articles ('in year 1980'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'how much they overall consume electricity'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher level of grammatical control.
