Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, including the trends for appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the description of the refrigerator trend is confusingly phrased ('in the next year, its figures were noticeably climbed'), and the comparison between the washing machine and vacuum cleaner is slightly inaccurate regarding the data points. While the key trends are identified, the lack of precise data interpretation and the tendency to misinterpret the timeline (e.g., 'in the next year' instead of referring to decades) limits the depth of the response. To improve, ensure that the data points are accurately transcribed and that the relationship between the two charts is more clearly synthesised.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'At the first glance', and 'Moving further', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or used incorrectly, such as 'meanwhile' in the overview, which does not effectively link the two distinct trends. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, making the flow of information feel slightly disjointed in places. Improving the variety and precision of linking words would enhance the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'amounted for moderate ratio', 'figures were noticeably climbed', and 'fractionally same ratio'. The use of 'percentile' is also incorrect in this context, as the data refers to percentages. While the student attempts to use more academic vocabulary, the inaccuracies in word form and collocation occasionally impede the clarity of the message. A wider range of precise, topic-specific vocabulary is needed to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('its figures were noticeably climbed'), subject-verb agreement ('its ratio was remain unchanged'), and awkward phrasing ('untill 2000 which was 98%'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors is noticeable and occasionally distracts the reader. Focusing on consistent verb tense usage and refining sentence construction will help improve the accuracy of the writing.
