Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of both charts, identifying the trends in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the overview is missing; a summary of the most significant trends is essential for a higher band. While the data is generally accurate, the description of the refrigerator trend is slightly imprecise, as it does not reach 100% in the provided data. The report would benefit from a more analytical approach that synthesizes the relationship between the two charts, rather than simply listing the data points for each appliance and activity separately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices. Phrases like 'If we look at first graph' and 'Second graph shows' are somewhat mechanical. While the progression of ideas is clear, the use of linking words is limited, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. To improve, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'meanwhile') to connect your ideas more fluidly and improve the overall readability of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely heavily on basic verbs like 'increased', 'declined', and 'shows'. There are also some spelling errors, such as 'vacum' instead of 'vacuum' and 'house holds' instead of 'households'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', or 'a significant drop'. Using a more varied range of vocabulary will help you demonstrate a better command of the language and make your writing more engaging.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles (e.g., 'first graph', 'percentage of refrigerator') and punctuation. Some sentences are run-on or lack proper conjunctions, such as 'means not increased nor decreased'. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that your sentences are punctuated correctly to avoid fragments or run-on structures.
