Percentage of households with electrical appliances (1920-2019)
Student answer (Band 5.5)
This bar chart illustrates the evolution in the amount of hours spent in doing the household chores and the possession of electrical appliances in a single country between the year 1920 and 2019.
Overall two main trends can be observed. The first is that all the three household chores have only risen along with the percentage of households. Second trend is that the number of hours per week from year 1920 till 2019 have only declined.
Every household chore has hiked over the years, while the time spent on each of the chore has declined. While looking at the chart, the usage of vacuum cleaner started suddenly, making its place in 30% in the year 1920 and reached the maximum of 100% in the households, along with the usage of washing machine. The usage of washing machine began with taking its place in 40% of the households and reaching its maximum of 74%. However, the usage of refrigerator started well before the usage of other too. It began from 0% and continued to rise till 100% but only till the year 2000.
In conclusion, the household chores might have find their way into the households, but their usage declined over time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is inconsistent and contains factual inaccuracies. For example, you state that all household chores have 'risen', which contradicts the data showing a decline in hours spent on housework. Furthermore, the description of the refrigerator data is confusing, as you claim it reached 100% by 2000, while the graph shows it reaching this point earlier. The summary of trends is somewhat contradictory, as you state that chores have 'hiked' while simultaneously noting that time spent has 'declined'. To improve, ensure you carefully distinguish between the percentage of appliance ownership and the hours spent on housework, and verify your data points against the visual information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is hindered by confusing statements. While you use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'In conclusion', the connection between sentences is sometimes weak or illogical. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final sentence where 'household chores' are described as finding their way into households, which is a misinterpretation of the data regarding appliances. Improving the logical flow between your overview and the supporting details will significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'evolution', 'possession', and 'appliance'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations. For example, 'hiked' is not the most appropriate term for describing statistical trends in this context, and 'making its place in 30%' is unnatural phrasing. Additionally, there are minor errors in word formation, such as 'might have find their way', which should be 'might have found their way'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that your collocations are natural and accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'the amount of hours spent in doing the household chores' (should be 'spent doing'), 'all the three household chores' (should be 'all three'), and 'usage of refrigerator started well before the usage of other too' (should be 'others'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and tense usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
