Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the trends in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The description of the data is occasionally inaccurate, such as stating that vacuum cleaners reached 100% in 2019, which is not clearly supported by the provided visual data. Additionally, the overview is slightly confusing, as it describes housework as a list of chores rather than summarizing the trends. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are cited more accurately and that the overview focuses strictly on the major trends rather than listing specific activities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the use of 'Consequently' at the start of the final paragraph is logically incorrect, as the decline in hours is not a direct consequence of the previous sentence's content. Furthermore, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. While there is a basic logical progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the occasional misuse of cohesive devices limit the flow of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'climb up of line graph' and 'refrigerator used is leveled off'. The student relies on basic descriptors and struggles with collocations, such as 'significant variation is occur'. While the meaning is generally clear, the limited range of vocabulary and the recurring errors in word choice prevent the response from achieving a higher score. Expanding the range of synonyms for trends and improving the accuracy of word forms would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('washing machines are commonly used', 'refrigerator used is leveled off') and tense inconsistencies ('is occur', 'are also remain'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction is often clunky. To improve, the student should focus on consistent verb tenses when describing historical data and ensure that subjects and verbs agree. The frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a stronger grasp of basic sentence mechanics.
