Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, including the trends for appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the description of the washing machine trend is inaccurate; the text states it 'stabilized at over 70%', while the graph shows it reaching 70% and then declining. Additionally, the comparison between the refrigerator and vacuum cleaner is slightly confused, as the data for the vacuum cleaner actually shows a steady rise rather than a sudden climb from 30% to 100%. To reach a higher band, you should ensure data points are cited more precisely and that the trends described accurately reflect the visual information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the phrase 'remained straight from second last year' is unclear, and the transition 'by comparing washing machine and to others' is grammatically awkward. Referencing is sometimes imprecise, such as 'had the similar figure like refrigerator', which lacks clarity. While there is an overall progression, the logical flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by these issues, making the text feel disjointed in places.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You rely on basic verbs like 'rose', 'climbed', and 'decreased'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'electrical machines' (appliances is more appropriate) and 'the work of house' (housework). Some phrases are non-standard, such as 'had the similar figure', which hinders the precision of your report. To improve, you should aim to use a wider variety of vocabulary related to trends and data, such as 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', or 'a significant decline'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The line graphs below illustrates' (subject-verb agreement error), 'in specific nation' (missing article), and 'The number hours of housework' (missing preposition). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
