Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, including the trends for appliances and the decline in housework hours. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. While you have identified key data points, the reporting is occasionally inaccurate (e.g., stating 'not even a single house had refrigerator' in 1920, whereas the chart shows a small percentage). The description of the washing machine trend is also slightly confusing. To improve, ensure you provide a more accurate summary of the data and focus on making meaningful comparisons between the different appliances rather than just listing statistics for each one individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite repetitive and mechanical, with frequent use of 'moreover' and 'however' to start sentences. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and some transitions feel forced. The logical progression within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by the way data is presented, making it feel like a list of numbers rather than a cohesive report. Improving the flow between sentences and using a wider range of cohesive devices would significantly enhance the readability of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You rely heavily on simple verbs like 'had', 'increased', and 'dropped'. There is little attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary or precise collocations related to data description (e.g., 'a sharp rise', 'a steady decline'). Additionally, there are minor errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'number kept on fluctuate' (should be 'fluctuated') and 'with sharp pace'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied and precise vocabulary to describe trends and changes in data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'in 1920, not even a single house had refrigerator'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'number kept on fluctuate'), and punctuation errors. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting. You should focus on improving your control over basic grammar, particularly article usage and subject-verb agreement, and try to incorporate more varied sentence structures to demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
