Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, including the trends for appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, the description of the washing machine trend as 'fluctuated considerably' is vague, and the data points provided are sometimes inaccurate or poorly integrated (e.g., stating housework hours were '50%' rather than '50 hours'). While the overview is present, it lacks the necessary detail to fully highlight the relationship between the rise in appliances and the reduction in housework time. To improve, ensure data is cited accurately and trends are described with more precision.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, overview, body, and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes awkward. For instance, starting a sentence with 'Whereas,' or using 'Which' as a sentence fragment disrupts the flow. The referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the transition between the appliance data and the housework data. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences are complete and logically connected would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. There are several instances of repetitive phrasing, such as 'fell dramatically' and 'increased/rose'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'vacumm' and the misuse of 'percentage' when referring to hours of housework. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider variety of synonyms for trends (e.g., 'soared', 'plummeted', 'gradual decline') and ensure that terminology is used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'there the refrigerator... percentage surged' (incorrect syntax) and 'Which rose upto 100%' (fragmented sentence). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and the spacing around parentheses. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and avoiding sentence fragments will help improve your accuracy.
