The charts below show the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The line charts provide trends about the two aspects of life in a country from 1920 to 2019: ownership of electrical appliances and time spent doing housework in households.

Overall, the ownership of electrical appliances increased over the period, but after sixty years, the ownership of some appliances showed static growth. The number of hours of housework declined over time and reached the lowest level at the end of the period.

At the start of the period in 1920, the proportion of washing machines and vacuum cleaners owned was 40% and 30%, respectively. In 1920, no one owned a refrigerator. In 1940, refrigerator ownership showed significant growth and jumped from zero to around 50%, while washing machines and vacuum cleaners had slight increases in their share, with 60% and around 58%, respectively. In 1960, the refrigerator surpassed both categories and reached 90% share, while the washing machine and vacuum cleaner had accounted for 70% for each. In 1980, the refrigerator reached the highest level with 100% and still retained that position at the end of the period. Moreover, there was a slight decline in the share of washing machines from 70% in 1960 to around 65% in 1980, but after that it showed slight growth and reached around 72% at the end of the era. In addition, vacuum cleaner ownership followed the upward trend and approached the highest share of 100% and remained unchanged till 2019.

In 1920, there were 50 hours per week for household work, but every two decades the hours had shown a downward trend. At the end of the period, the working hours reached the lowest level, with 10 hours per week.
