Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, including the trends for appliances and the inverse relationship with housework hours. However, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence ('it fluctuated s'). This failure to finish the analysis of the final data point and the lack of a concluding summary significantly impacts the task achievement. While the initial overview is clear, the incomplete nature of the response means that the final comparison and the overall trend for housework time are not fully addressed. To improve, ensure you complete your analysis and provide a clear summary of the main trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay uses some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In addition', and 'In contrast' to organize ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but the abrupt ending disrupts the logical flow and progression of the text. Referencing is generally clear, though the incomplete sentence at the end makes the final paragraph incoherent. The progression of information is logical up until the point where the text cuts off. To reach a higher band, ensure that all paragraphs are fully developed and that the response reaches a natural conclusion, avoiding unfinished thoughts.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, using terms like 'witnessed a substantial increase', 'surged', and 'fluctuated'. There are some minor errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'houseownerships' instead of 'ownership' and the repetitive use of 'over the period'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Focusing on more varied reporting verbs and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with apostrophes ('refrigerator's', 'vacuum cleaner's', 'washing machine's') which are used incorrectly to indicate plural ownership. Additionally, there are minor errors in preposition use and tense consistency. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. To improve, pay closer attention to pluralization rules and ensure that complex structures are used accurately.
