The charts below show the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The charts illustrate the change in the adoption of electrical appliances and the amount of time spent on housework in households in a country from 1920 to 2019.

Overall, the percentage of households with electrical appliances increased over the period, whereas the number of hours of housework per week decreased gradually. Ownership of both the vacuum cleaner and refrigerator recorded the highest percentage, while the percentage of households with washing machines hovered below 80 percent.

40 percent of households owned washing machines in 1920, which was surpassed by refrigerators in 1940 and vacuum cleaners in 1960. Among the three, refrigerators were adopted by 100 percent of households in 1980 and vacuum cleaners in 2000. Despite starting in a higher position, the washing machine remained the least adopted electrical appliance among households.

The number of hours of housework plunged sharply until 1960 before leveling off to nearly zero hours. 50 hours of housework used to be performed per week in 1920, which became nearly zero in 2019.
