Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to accurately report the data provided in the charts. You have misinterpreted the trends, stating that appliance ownership and housework hours were higher in 1920 than in later years, which contradicts the typical progression of such data. Furthermore, you have not selected the main features or made relevant comparisons between the two charts. The response is largely descriptive in a vague, repetitive manner rather than analytical. To improve, you must carefully observe the specific data points (e.g., the rise in appliance ownership over time) and describe the relationship between the two trends, such as how increased appliance ownership correlates with a decrease in housework hours.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is unclear and repetitive. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'In the diagram' and 'On the other hand'. The introduction is poorly constructed, and the concluding sentence is informal and does not effectively summarise the main trends. The lack of logical flow between sentences makes it difficult for the reader to follow the intended message. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, distinct focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic words like 'high', 'low', 'numbers', and 'explained'. There is no attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary related to data analysis or the subject matter (e.g., 'fluctuation', 'correlation', 'household appliances', 'drastic decline'). The phrasing is often unnatural, such as 'the year of 1920 to 2019 are explained'. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary to include more precise terms for describing trends and data, and avoid repeating the same simple adjectives throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the percentage... are explained'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence structures. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, repetitive sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence forms, and punctuation is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Practising the formation of complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions will also help improve your grammatical range.
