Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the trends in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains inaccuracies regarding the data. For instance, the description of the washing machine trend as having 'ups and downs' is vague and does not accurately reflect the provided data points. Furthermore, the reference to 'these ten years' is factually incorrect as the period spans a century (1920–2019). While the main trends are identified, the lack of precision in reporting the data and the misinterpretation of the time scale prevent a higher score. More careful attention to the specific figures and the overall timeframe is required.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'and' to connect clauses. The logical progression is interrupted by grammatical errors and unclear referencing, particularly when discussing the time periods. While the overall structure is discernible, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the somewhat disjointed nature of the sentences make the progression feel mechanical rather than fluid. Improving the use of transition signals would significantly enhance the readability of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range expected at higher levels. There are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'take a start' instead of 'began' and 'equipment's of electronic' instead of 'electrical appliances'. The repetition of basic verbs like 'goes' and 'take' limits the lexical variety. Additionally, there are minor errors in word formation, such as 'cloths' instead of 'clothes'. To improve, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and ensure that nouns and adjectives are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('refrigerator take a start'), incorrect tense usage, and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage when describing historical data will help improve the accuracy of your writing.
