Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to complete the task. While it identifies some trends, the final paragraph is incomplete, ending abruptly with a sentence fragment ('Number of hours per week per household'). Consequently, the data regarding housework hours is not reported, and the comparison between the two charts is left unfinished. The overview is present but lacks clarity, and the description of the appliance data is somewhat superficial. To improve, ensure all data points are fully described and that the report is brought to a logical conclusion. The failure to address the second chart fully significantly impacts the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the final section. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'Firstly', and 'On the other hand', but they are sometimes used mechanically or with grammatical errors (e.g., 'in between 1920 and 2019'). The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of a completed final paragraph disrupts the overall flow of the report. To improve, focus on ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that the conclusion synthesises the main trends effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and includes several spelling errors, such as 'flactuates' (fluctuates), 'subsequetly' (subsequently), and 'vaccume' (vacuum). The phrasing is often awkward, such as 'the number of weeks per hour' (which is factually incorrect based on the prompt) and 'reached at the least value'. While the student attempts to use some descriptive language like 'dramatically' and 'upward trend', the inaccuracies in word choice and spelling impede the precision required for a Task 1 report. Expanding your vocabulary related to trends and data description is essential.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the line charts... demonstrates'), article usage ('the percentage of washing machine'), and prepositional errors ('reached at the least value'). Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors, such as 'the percentage in the starting year was moderate but during these years it had showed the dramatic increase'. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and article placement.
