Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, including the trends in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the analysis is inconsistent. While the overview is clear, the body paragraph describing the appliances is poorly developed and lacks specific data points. For instance, stating that washing machine usage 'have three tenth' is grammatically unclear and fails to accurately report the figures provided in the chart. The comparison between the two charts is attempted but lacks the precision required for a higher band. To improve, ensure that specific data points are cited to support general trends and avoid vague descriptions like 'moving another year'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the progression of ideas within the third paragraph is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'and' to connect sentences. Referencing is also problematic; for example, the phrase 'In 2019, and 2019' is confusing and does not serve as an effective transition. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') and ensure that each sentence flows logically from the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. Phrases like 'growing 1920 to 2019' and 'the using of washing machine' are awkward and demonstrate a lack of control over collocations. There are also errors in word form, such as 'universally reached the higher demanded appliance', which impedes clarity. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the lack of precision and frequent errors in word choice prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on accurate collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Washing machine had growing') and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction is often fragmented or awkward, which occasionally makes the meaning difficult to follow. To achieve a higher band, the student should aim to incorporate a wider range of complex structures, such as subordinate clauses or passive voice, while ensuring that basic grammatical rules are applied consistently to reduce the frequency of errors.
