Student answer (Band 5.5)
THe given line graphs illustrate proportions of households in a country with ownership of washing machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner in the time period of 1920 to 2019 and the time taken consumed on housework in a single house.
Overall the ownership of each appliance is went high but the need of refrigerator increased dramtically from 0 to 90 % from years 1029 to 1960 surpassing others, in contrast with both vacuum cleaner and washing machine.
It is quite evident from the graph that refrigerator was the first to reach 100% mark in year 1980. Although washing mashines aslo leveled with the refrigerators in 2000, vacuum cleaner became available for 70% of households in 1960, after that it came down to 67% in 1960, before finishing at 73% in 2019.
Furthermore the time consumption have a sharp decline from 50 hours in 1920 to 20 hours in year 1960 before reaching nearly 10 hours in year 2019.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, including the trends in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, the description of the vacuum cleaner trend is confusing and contains factual inaccuracies regarding the dates and percentages mentioned. While the overview identifies the general upward trend in ownership and the downward trend in time spent, the report lacks a clear, integrated comparison between the two datasets. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that the relationship between the rise in appliances and the reduction in housework time is explicitly highlighted.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the transition 'Furthermore'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the third paragraph where the sequence of events regarding the vacuum cleaner is difficult to follow due to imprecise logical connectors. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several spelling errors ('dramtically', 'aslo', 'mashines') and some awkward phrasing, such as 'time taken consumed on housework'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, you should aim to use more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling of key terms. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and the presence of recurring errors limit the score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'the ownership of each appliance is went high' (incorrect verb tense/form) and 'the time consumption have a sharp decline' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
