Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the relationship between appliance ownership and housework time. You selected key data points to support your descriptions, such as the peak years for washing machines and the final figures for housework hours. However, the report could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the two charts. For instance, you could explicitly link the sharp rise in vacuum cleaner ownership to the most significant drops in housework hours. Overall, you covered all requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, and you have used cohesive devices such as 'Similarly', 'Furthermore', and 'Afterwards' to link your points. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two different datasets. To reach a higher band, ensure that referencing is always precise; for example, in the second paragraph, you mention 'both' but then list three items (vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, and washing machines), which creates a slight ambiguity in the grouping.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision. Phrases like 'witnessed a decrease', 'attained its peak', and 'plateaued' are used effectively in an academic context. There are no significant spelling errors, and your word choice is generally appropriate for a report. To improve further, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' to avoid repetition, and ensure that collocations are consistently natural, such as using 'reached a low of' rather than 'reached to its lowest of'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, and your control over grammar is generally good. Most sentences are error-free, and your use of tenses is appropriate for describing historical data. There are minor slips, such as 'reached to its lowest of 10', where the preposition 'to' is unnecessary. Additionally, ensure consistent subject-verb agreement and article usage. While your grammar is functional and clear, incorporating a wider variety of complex structures, such as passive voice or participle clauses, would enhance the sophistication of your writing.
