Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response effectively identifies the main trends and provides a clear overview of the relationship between appliance ownership and housework time. You have selected key data points to support your descriptions, such as the peak years for appliances and the decline in hours. However, the report could be improved by making more explicit comparisons between the two graphs. For instance, you mention the decline in housework hours and the rise in appliances, but linking these specifically at key intervals (e.g., the 1960s) would strengthen the analysis. Overall, the task is well-addressed with a clear focus on the significant features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a summary. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Over the period', 'Similarly', and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different categories of data. The referencing is generally clear, though some transitions between sentences could be slightly more varied to avoid a mechanical feel. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision. Phrases like 'witnessed a downward trend', 'achieved their peak', and 'plateaued' are used appropriately. There is some minor repetition of 'number of', and 'two-fifths' is a good use of fractions. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or less common synonyms to describe trends, such as 'surged' or 'remained stable'. The vocabulary is accurate and fits the academic context well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures with good control. Most sentences are error-free, and your punctuation is generally accurate. There are a few minor issues, such as 'the number of hours of housework per week underwent a significant decline from a half to around one-fifth', where 'a half' is slightly awkward; '50 hours' or 'half of the initial amount' would be clearer. Overall, your grammar is strong, and the occasional minor slips do not impede communication or cause confusion.
