Student answer (Band 5.0)

The provided tables illustrate how the figures of consumers of electrical appliances changes over the period and how much time needed doing households works in a country from 1920 to 2019.

Overall, the use of all the appliances skyrocketed steeply. Among them refrigerator started its journey from low of all other appliances. In 2nd table, on the other hand, hours of doing households works were decreased steadily.

In first table, washing machine and vacuum cleaner were in use of 40% and 30% respectively while there was no use of refrigerator at that time. The use of washing machine and vacuum cleaner increased continuously and reached at a tie of 70% in 1960. After that washing machine fell at around 65% in 1980 but vacuum cleaner rose its peak and ended with 100% at 2019. Washing machine slowly increased and ended estimated time with near 75%. Refrigerator showed steeply increase from 0% to 100% in 2019. People started using it sharply and in 1960 it reached 90% then slowed

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main trends, such as the increase in appliance ownership and the decrease in housework hours. However, the analysis is incomplete. The second chart regarding housework hours is mentioned in the introduction and overview but is never actually described or analyzed in the body paragraphs. Furthermore, the data reporting is inconsistent; for instance, the description of the refrigerator's trend is cut off mid-sentence at the end of the response. To improve, ensure all data sets mentioned in the overview are fully supported with specific figures and trends in the body paragraphs, and ensure the response is complete.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into an introduction, an overview, and one body paragraph. While there is a basic attempt at logical progression, the lack of a second body paragraph to address the second chart makes the structure unbalanced. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'In first table', and 'on the other hand', but they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly (e.g., 'In 2nd table' is not followed by any analysis). The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the abrupt ending significantly disrupts the flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. While words like 'skyrocketed' and 'steeply' are appropriate for describing trends, other choices are imprecise, such as 'figures of consumers' instead of 'percentage of households' and 'doing households works' instead of 'housework'. There are also issues with word formation and collocation, such as 'reached at a tie' and 'ended estimated time'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology for data description and improving collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in articles ('In first table', 'in 2nd table'), prepositions ('reached at a tie'), and verb tense/form ('hours... were decreased', 'vacuum cleaner rose its peak'). Some sentences are grammatically awkward, such as 'the use of all the appliances skyrocketed steeply'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the incomplete final sentence. A greater focus on basic grammatical accuracy and sentence structure is required.
