Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by describing the trends in appliance ownership and housework hours. However, the overview is missing, and the reporting of data is inconsistent and lacks precision. For example, stating that the refrigerator usage is '100%' is an overgeneralization, and the description of the vacuum cleaner trend is confusing. The response fails to make meaningful comparisons between the two charts, such as the inverse relationship between the rise in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview of the main trends and use data points more accurately to support your descriptions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas effectively. Phrases like 'First the thing is' and 'secondly' are used in a mechanical and repetitive way. Referencing is often unclear, particularly with the use of 'he' to refer to inanimate objects like appliances. The lack of logical flow between the appliance data and the housework data makes the overall structure feel fragmented. Using a wider range of linking words and ensuring clear transitions between paragraphs would significantly improve the coherence of the writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms such as 'percentage', 'using', and 'appliances'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'slow to up' and 'the thing is'. The student struggles with collocations, for example, 'home use electrical appliances' instead of 'household electrical appliances'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more varied vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'plateau', 'decline', or 'significant increase', and avoid repeating the same words throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('The line chart illustrate'), article usage, and tense consistency. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'the time was spending hours are decrease'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses when describing past data, and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and article placement.
