Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main trends, but the presentation of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For instance, stating that housework hours 'began 0 percent' is logically incorrect, as the data refers to hours, not percentages. The description of the appliance ownership is repetitive and lacks a clear overview of the inverse relationship between appliance ownership and housework time. While the main features are identified, the lack of precision in reporting figures (e.g., 'anywhere between 50 to 60 percent') and the misinterpretation of the units (hours vs. percentages) prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on accurately reporting the data points and synthesizing the trends rather than listing them chronologically.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes misused, such as 'Moving towards line graph,' which is not a standard way to transition in an academic report. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing multiple appliances in one sentence. While there is an overall attempt at structure, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive sentence structure make the flow feel disjointed. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring clear referencing between the two charts would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, relying heavily on phrases like 'percentage of' and 'increases to.' There are also issues with word choice, such as 'changes happened in' instead of 'changes in' or 'trends in.' The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe trends, such as 'remains same' instead of 'remained stable' or 'plateaued.' To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated,' 'witnessed a significant rise,' or 'accounted for,' and avoid repeating the same sentence structures throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'all of the households lies') and incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'percentage of... is 40 percent'). The sentence structures are predominantly simple, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and spacing. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the use of complex sentences to describe trends, such as using subordinate clauses to compare the two sets of data simultaneously.
