Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main trends for all appliances and the housework hours. However, the analysis is hampered by inaccurate reporting of data. For instance, stating that housework was '50%' in 1920 is incorrect based on the provided chart, which shows 50 hours. Furthermore, the description of the washing machine trend as a 'roller coaster' is informal and lacks the precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. While the overview is present, the lack of accurate data interpretation and the tendency to describe trends in a non-academic manner limit the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'And then the number reach by 100%' and 'And between the year 1940 to 2019'. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. While there is an overall progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive use of 'And' at the start of sentences detract from the flow of the writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'the number were surprisingly increase' and 'the number reach by' demonstrate a lack of control over word forms and collocations. There is an attempt to use some descriptive language, but it is often imprecise or inappropriate for an academic context, such as 'roller coaster'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but the range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with the necessary precision or variety expected at higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('the number were', 'the percentage... were already been increased') and tense usage. While there is an attempt at complex sentence structures, they are often faulty, leading to awkward phrasing. Punctuation is basic, and the control over sentence construction is inconsistent. The errors are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader, though the general meaning remains understandable.
