Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student covers all parts of the task by reporting the main trends and making comparisons between the three appliances and the housework hours. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting and temporal references (e.g. stating the end year as 2079 instead of 2019, and reporting that refrigerators reached 100% in 1980 when the chart shows otherwise). The overview is present but somewhat muddled by these inaccuracies. Ideas are generally relevant, but the misinterpretation of data prevents the response from achieving a higher band. It fits best into Band 5.5 to 6.0 descriptors for addressing the task partially due to data errors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is structured into paragraphs, including an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs focusing on appliances and housework hours respectively. However, the logical flow is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions, mechanical cohesive devices, and poor referencing. Phrases like 'Mean while' and 'In 1960 and from 1960 to 2079 it showed a oscillated' demonstrate faulty cohesion and a lack of clear progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal coherence within the paragraphs is weak. This corresponds to the Band 5 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary related to trends, such as 'sharply', 'increase slightly', and 'decline gradually'. However, there are numerous word choice and collocation errors, such as 'time expenditure doing housework' instead of 'time spent', 'the refrigerator represent' (agreement error), and 'vaccum cleaner was also hike rapidly'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with frequent inaccuracy. Spelling and word formation errors, such as 'vaccum' and 'oscillated' used incorrectly as a noun ('an oscillated'), occasionally impede communication, placing the response firmly in Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in tense usage ('was decline slightly', 'was increase slightly', 'stay unchanged'), subject-verb agreement ('the washing machine was predominant electrical appliances'), and prepositions ('reached at 100%'). Punctuation is also problematic, with fragmented sentences and misplaced periods (e.g., 'In 1980 which were exceeded...'). These errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar score from reaching Band 6.0.
