Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main trends in the charts regarding electrical appliances and housework hours between 1920 and 2019. However, the overview is extremely weak and fails to clearly highlight the overall trends or key comparisons. While some specific data points are mentioned, such as the washing machine reaching 72 percent and vacuum cleaners hitting 100 percent by 2000, the selection and reporting of data lack precision and organization. Important comparisons between appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours are poorly integrated. Consequently, the response addresses the task only partially, corresponding to a band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The organization of the text is severely hindered by awkward paragraphing and a lack of clear progression. Although paragraphs are used to separate different data points, the logical flow from one sentence to the next is frequently broken. Transitions like 'Adding the information of' and 'Then takes a information of' are unnatural and mechanically applied, acting as inadequate cohesive devices. Furthermore, referencing is unclear in places, making it difficult for the reader to follow which data points correspond to which years or categories. There is no clear overall progression, placing this response at band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very limited and repetitive. The student frequently misuses words and collocations, such as 'replace' instead of 'changes', 'fastly' instead of 'rapidly', and phrases like 'increased there value' and 'acquire a percentage'. There are also frequent errors in word formation and choice throughout the text, such as 'consent' instead of 'constant' and 'tale top percentage'. While the range is minimally adequate to convey basic data, noticeable errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and prevent the score from reaching a higher band, fitting the band 4 criteria.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences attempt simple or faulty complex forms, and there is a total lack of error-free sentences. Frequent grammatical errors include incorrect prepositions, tense confusion, and severe issues with subject-verb agreement and pronoun usage, such as in 'that fastly grew there percentage' and 'the value between in 12 to 10'. Punctuation is also erratic, with sentences running together or failing to demarcate clauses properly. These errors cause frequent strain and difficulty for the reader, aligning with band 4.
