Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the main features of the charts, noting the overall upward trend in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the interpretation of the axes and data is confused, as the student states that the x-axis shows the percentage of hours rather than the years, which demonstrates a misunderstanding of the source material. While some trends are identified, such as refrigerator ownership starting at zero and rising, the description lacks accurate detail and appropriate comparison across the whole period. Key data points are missing or described vaguely, such as 'vaccum cleaner shows the straight line'. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, leading to a Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, an overview paragraph, and body sentences, but the overall progression is disjointed. Paragraphing is irregular, with sentences clumped together awkwardly and no clear logical flow between the appliance data and the housework hours data. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or used inaccurately (e.g., 'On the other hand on y-axis', 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', 'On the otherhand'). Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. These organizational and cohesive weaknesses place the response at Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms like 'percentage', 'households', 'increasing', and 'hours'. There are noticeable spelling errors ('house households', 'slowely', 'Vaccum', 'dicreseing', 'siginfiacant', 'increaing', 'significiantly', 'useage', 'caccum') and awkward word choices ('huge improvemnet', 'number of hours at 50 per week'). The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. This corresponds to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in basic sentence structure, capitalization, punctuation, and prepositions (e.g., 'The line chart illustrate', 'In the X-axis its and percentage', 'number of hours at 50 per week'). Complex structures are often faulty, and missing verbs or subject-verb agreement errors are common. Although communication is not entirely blocked, the high frequency of errors places this performance firmly at Band 5.0.
