Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the charts, identifying appliance ownership trends and housework hours. However, the summary is incomplete and trails off at the end of the text. Furthermore, there are several inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, the student states that the refrigerator recorded the lowest percentage in 1920 when it started at 0%, but the data description is fragmented. Additionally, the final sentence is unfinished, breaking off abruptly at 'and reached'. While the overall trends for vacuum cleaners and refrigerators reaching 100% are noted, the lack of completion and data precision limits the score. It corresponds to a Band 5 because it addresses parts of the task only partially and contains noticeable inaccuracies and an incomplete conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses some basic paragraphing, separating the introduction from body paragraphs, although the paragraphs themselves are disjointed and difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are minimal and often misused or awkward, such as 'From an overall perspective, the line graph highlight' and 'Where vacuum cleaner accounted for the highest percentage, while refrigarator recorded the lowest percentage over the figure.' The referencing is frequently unclear, and the mechanical flow is disrupted by grammatical errors and truncated sentences, particularly at the end where the text cuts off mid-sentence. Overall organization lacks a clear progression and logical flow, justifying a Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and repetitive. The student uses basic vocabulary related to the prompt, such as 'changes', 'housework', 'households', and 'electrical appliances'. There are several spelling and word-choice errors, including 'ownwershio' for ownership, 'refrigarator' for refrigerator, and 'householdwork' for housework. Less common vocabulary is attempted with significant inaccuracy, and collocation is often awkward, as seen in phrases like 'stood at lowest number of hours' or 'over the figure'. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic topic, but errors in spelling and word choice cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most complex structure attempts are either faulty or incomplete. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, punctuation, and article usage, such as missing articles ('washing machine stood at 40 %') and incorrect prepositional usage ('Regarding to householdwork'). Agreement and tense consistency are problematic throughout the text, and the final sentence is an incomplete fragment ('and reached'). These persistent errors frequently impede communication and place the response firmly in the Band 5 category.
