Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Percentage of households with electrical appliances (1920-2019)
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The graph illustrates the change in percentage of households owning 3 electrical appliances (washing machine, refrigerator, and vacuum cleaner) between the years 1920 and 2019. And the time spent on house chores in the same years.
The percentage of the access to washing machine increases througout the years followed by the vacuum cleaner. Refrigerator become popular in 1940. Whereas the time spent on doing chores significantly decreases.
In year 1920 households have ccess to the washing machine almost 40 % and and vacuum cleaner around 30 %. However the refrigerator stays at 0 untill 1940. The number increased more around 60 %. This percentage reaches to its maximum 100 % in year 2019 following the continous increase all along.
About 50 % time of each year people were spending on performing chores. With the increase in ownership of electrical appliances this time reduced significantly in 1960 to 20 % and continues to reduce at 10% till 2019.
In conclusion as people becoming more accessible to the advanced technology they have more time saved from house chores which can be used to do or learn something new and creative.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student successfully identifies the main features of both charts, covering the trends in appliance ownership (washing machines, refrigerators, and vacuum cleaners) and the corresponding decline in time spent on housework between 1920 and 2019. Key comparisons are made, such as refrigerators starting at zero in 1920 and reaching 100 percent by 2019, alongside the drop in chore time from around 50 percent to 10 percent. However, some data points are slightly imprecise (e.g., stating washing machine access was 'almost 40%' in 1920 when it was actually lower, around 30%), and the conclusion includes personal speculation not strictly presented in the charts. Despite these minor generalisations and inaccuracies, all parts of the task are adequately addressed. Band score: 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into five paragraphs, following a logical layout with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing appliances and time separately, and a concluding remark. Cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'whereas', 'however', and 'in conclusion', but their use is occasionally mechanical or clumsy, as seen in sentences starting abruptly like 'And the time spent...' or 'The percentage of the access to...'. Paragraphing is present and helps structure the response, but referencing and transitions between sentences lack seamless flow. Overall, the arrangement is coherent with some faulty cohesive links. Band score: 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to the prompt such as 'appliance ownership', 'house chores', and 'advanced technology'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'percentage of the access to', 'refrigerator stays at 0', and 'people becoming more accessible to'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but phrasing tends to be repetitive and relies on basic descriptive terms rather than demonstrating a wider, more flexible lexical range. Communication is not impeded, but precision is lacking. Band score: 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including subordinate clauses and temporal markers (e.g., 'With the increase in ownership of electrical appliances this time reduced significantly...'). However, grammatical errors are frequent throughout the response, including missing articles ('in year 1920'), incorrect prepositions ('access to the washing machine'), tense inconsistencies, and awkward phrasing ('The number increased more around 60 %'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they persist across multiple sentences and demonstrate limited control over complex structures. Band score: 5.0.
