Student answer (Band 5.0)

The given line graph illustrate the trend of owning the electrical appliances (washing machine, refrigerator, vacuum cleaner) and weekly number of hours of housework in the houses of a particular country from 1920 to 2019.

In 1920, washing machine was somehow common and became most common in next 20 years. Similarly, the ownership of vacuum cleaner also increased gradually and rose up to 100 % in 2000. However, none of the homes owning refrigerator in at the beginning and this percentage rose sharply to touch the figure of 90 % in 1960. Afterwards, 100 % of the homes were holding the them in 1980 and then percentage was constant for next 40 years. Across all the change, only for a once a single time ownership of a any item was decrease that is washing machine in 1960.

On the other hand, house work per week change contradictarory. In 1920, families were using 50 hours per week and trend continously decreasing. By 2019, only 10 hours

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the appliance ownership chart and the housework hours chart, including appropriate comparisons. The writer identifies key trends, such as refrigerators and vacuum cleaners reaching 100% by 2000/2019, and the steady decline in housework hours from 50 to around 11. However, the data description is occasionally imprecise (e.g., stating that none of the homes owned a refrigerator at the beginning when the chart shows 2%, and claiming the washing machine ownership decreased in 1960 when it actually dropped slightly from 1960 to 1980). Furthermore, the response trails off abruptly at the very end ('By 2019, only 10 hours'). This prevents a fully developed overview and accurate reporting throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response has an overall structure and attempts to divide the information between the two charts ('In 1920...' and 'On the other hand...'). However, paragraphing is underdeveloped, and the text is presented in dense blocks. Cohesive devices are attempted ('Similarly', 'However', 'Afterwards'), but their usage is sometimes mechanical or awkward (e.g., 'Across all the change, only for a once a single time ownership of a any item was decrease'). Logical progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and abrupt transitions, and the abrupt ending of the essay disrupts the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts to use topic-specific terms like 'ownership', 'electrical appliances', and 'trend'. However, there are numerous lexical errors, awkward word choices, and morphological mistakes throughout the text, such as 'owning the electrical appliances' instead of 'the ownership of electrical appliances', 'none of the homes owning refrigerator' (grammatical and lexical slip), and 'house work per week change contradictarory'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success, and spelling or word-form inaccuracies are frequent enough to occasionally cause the reader hesitation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in articles ('the electrical appliances', 'a any item'), preposition usage ('in houses of a particular country'), and subject-verb agreement or tense consistency ('washing machine was somehow common', 'holding the them'). Clauses are often awkwardly constructed, and the incomplete final sentence ('By 2019, only 10 hours') demonstrates a breakdown in sentence completion. These errors frequently cause difficulty and require the reader to re-read to grasp the intended meaning.
