Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address all parts of the prompt by describing the trends for washing machines, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, and the hours of housework. However, there are significant misinterpretations and confusing references in the text. For instance, the student claims that the refrigerator 'was not used in 1920' (which is accurate at 2%), but then refers to 'registration percentage' and 'percent of household of registration' when discussing refrigerators, which appears to be a severe spelling or translation confusion for refrigerators. Furthermore, data points contain inaccuracies, such as stating that housework reached 10 hours in 2018 (the chart shows 2019 at around 11 hours). While main features are highlighted, the response struggles with consistent, accurate reporting of data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is divided into paragraphs, which is a positive feature, but the logical flow and progression within paragraphs are frequently disrupted by mechanical phrasing and poor cohesive devices. Transitions such as 'In following year' and 'after that percent of household' are abrupt and awkward. Referencing is often unclear, leaving the reader confused about which appliance is being discussed due to improper noun use. Paragraphing is present, but overall progression lacks smooth coordination.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
Lexical control is weak throughout the response. There are multiple spelling errors ('spenf', 'hoisework', 'chnage'), and severe vocabulary misuse, such as using 'registration' repeatedly to mean 'refrigerator'. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying heavily on basic terms and repetitive sentence starters. While some basic topic-specific vocabulary appears (e.g., 'ownership', 'washing machine'), frequent word-choice errors impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is very low. There are persistent errors in articles ('ownership pf washing machine', 'household in one nation'), subject-verb agreement ('the percentage increasing'), and prepositions. Many sentences contain structural awkwardness, such as 'accounted with 60 percent' and 'reached peak of the table'. These errors occur frequently and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
