Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers all parts of the prompt, addressing both appliance ownership and housework hours, and attempts to make comparisons. However, there are significant factual inaccuracies in reading the data from the graphs. For instance, the student states that the percentage of refrigerators started at 0 in 1920 and rose to 50 in 1940 (the graph shows 2% and 55% respectively), and misreads the washing machine data throughout (e.g., claiming it dropped to 60% in 1960 and declined in 1980 when it actually rose). The overview is also weak and lacks a clear summary of the main trends. While the student attempts to report the main features, the numerous misreadings of the data prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response has some organization with separate paragraphs for the appliances and the housework hours, but overall progression is hindered by confusing transitions and erratic sequencing. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'As compare washing machine' and 'As the time passes'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the body of the text is somewhat disjointed, with individual sentences feeling isolated rather than forming a cohesive flow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow which appliance is being discussed at times.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent awkward phrasing and word choice errors. Examples include 'in duration 1920 to 2019', 'remains constant to 100%', and 'jut it cross the line'. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'gradually increased', 'fluctuations', and 'exceeds', inaccuracies in collocation and preposition usage are noticeable. Spelling is generally acceptable, but lexical control is insufficient for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is weak, leading to frequent grammatical errors. Examples of errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('The both line graphs shows'), missing prepositions, and awkward sentence structures ('As compare washing machine its high having 40%'). Punctuation is also problematic, with missing capitalisation at the start of sentences and run-on structures. These errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader and restrict the response to a Band 5.
