Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to report the main features of both charts, mentioning the household appliance ownership percentages for washing machines, refrigerators, and vacuum cleaners alongside the weekly hours spent on housework. However, the response suffers from serious structural issues in how the data is presented. Instead of a clear overview and grouped comparisons, the text reads like a confusing list of raw data points, particularly in sentences like 'in 1940 all used were approximately same like first is 60% second is 55% and third is 50%'. While most figures are roughly accurate according to the chart, the lack of an overarching summary and poor selection of highlighted trends prevent the response from reaching a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The response is severely lacking in paragraphing, presented as a single, dense block of text that makes it difficult to follow the chronological progression of the data. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, relying heavily on repetitive transitions like 'In 1940', 'In 1960', and 'In 1980 and 2000'. Referencing is also faulty throughout the text, as seen in vague phrases like 'the first is 60% second is 55% and third is 50%', where the reader must constantly look backward to figure out which appliance is being referenced. There is no clear overall progression or logical grouping of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, heavily constrained by the student's limited lexical range. Words such as 'changes', 'amount', 'used', and 'increase' are repeated numerous times without variation. There are also noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'electric machines', 'house works', 'the time is fall', and 'the freezer is 90%' (when referring to a refrigerator). The lack of precision and inability to use less common vocabulary effectively keep the score at this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences or poorly linked compound clauses. There are frequent, noticeable grammatical errors that disrupt the flow of reading, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The line charts gives'), tense confusion ('vacuum cleaner had used', 'was dramatically increase'), and missing articles or prepositions ('spend time per week about 50 hours'). Punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences joined by commas instead of proper conjunctions or full stops. These recurring errors impede communication at times.
