Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address both parts of the prompt, mentioning appliance ownership and the hours spent on housework. However, the response suffers from significant inaccuracies in reporting data, such as claiming the refrigerator was at 0% in 1920 (it was actually 2%) and confusing percentages with hours in the second chart ('50% was increased'). The overview is weak and lacks a clear, cohesive summary of the overall trends. While some main features are touched upon, such as the rise of vacuum cleaners to 100%, the overall development of ideas is limited and under-developed, aligning best with Band 5 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The organization of the response is fragmented. The student attempts paragraphing by dividing the introduction, the first chart, the second chart, and a conclusion/comparison. However, logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing sentences like 'In comparisons, Two line charts show that...'. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, with repetitive structures ('between 1920 to 2019') used to link time periods. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the relationships between ideas. Overall progression is lacking, placing this response firmly in Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple terms like 'house', 'chart', 'used', and 'housework'. There are noticeable word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'refrigaretor' and awkward phrasing like 'Households was very used washing machine'. The range is limited and barely adequate for the task. Less common lexical items are either absent or misused, resulting in language that often strains the reader and fits the Band 4 to Band 5 profile, leaning toward Band 5 due to basic adequacy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that contain frequent errors. Examples include 'The line charts show how the changes in ownership...' (unnecessary 'how') and 'number of hours households work of their house per week'. Subject-verb agreement and prepositional use are frequently flawed ('work in per wheel at house'). Complex sentence forms are almost always faulty. Because errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader in understanding the precise meaning, this meets the criteria for Band 4.5, rounded to 4.5.
