Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student covers all parts of the task by reporting on appliance ownership and the time spent on housework. An overview is present, highlighting the main trends such as the increase in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, there are some inaccuracies in reporting specific data points. For instance, the student states that in 1920 'there are no house which have Refrigerator', whereas the graph shows 2%. Similarly, reporting the final figure for washing machines as 'above 60%' is inaccurate, as the chart shows 75%. Furthermore, the timeline for refrigerators is slightly confused. These errors prevent the task achievement score from reaching higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into four paragraphs, following a standard introduction, overview, and body paragraph structure. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, such as 'Overall', 'To begin with', and 'Nevertheless'. However, paragraphing is somewhat erratic in the middle sections, and logical progression is occasionally hindered by imprecise referencing and abrupt transitions. For example, moving between appliances lacks smooth linking. Furthermore, some sentences are awkwardly joined, causing the flow to feel slightly mechanical at times.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but contains noticeable errors and awkward phrasing. Examples include 'eletrical accessories' instead of 'electrical appliances', 'home tasks' instead of 'housework', and 'washing cloths' instead of 'clothes'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'fluctuations', 'dramatic increase', and 'steady decrease', but collocation and word choice are sometimes imprecise. Spelling errors like 'bigening' for 'beginning' and 'Eventhough' further detract from the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are several noticeable grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('there are some fluctuations in percentage', 'there are no house which have'), tense inconsistencies ('the hours start dropping' instead of started), and preposition errors ('spent by people on their home work in 1920'). These errors cause some difficulty for the reader, although meaning is generally communicated.
