Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The student attempts to address the task by describing the main trends in appliance ownership and housework hours. However, the response suffers from severe data inaccuracies when compared against the visual source. For instance, the text claims that in 1920 the refrigerator rate was 'o percent' and that in 2019 the washing machine rate was 'low 70%' (whereas it was actually 75%, and 40% in 1920), and it misreads the housework figures as dropping from '50% to !0%' instead of 50 to 11 hours per week. Furthermore, the overview is extremely weak, stating incorrectly that the vacuum cleaner was the highest among all throughout. Because of these significant inaccuracies and lack of a coherent overview, the task response is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The text is organised into paragraphs, beginning with an introduction followed by body paragraphs and a concluding sentence. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by confusing phrasing and poor mechanical transitions such as 'On the one factor'. Referencing is often unclear (e.g., pronouns or dangling comparisons like 'who was high from washing machine'). Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak and repetitive, resulting in a disjointed reading experience that fails to guide the reader smoothly through the data points.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The student demonstrates a very limited and repetitive vocabulary, making frequent spelling and word-choice errors. Examples include 'amout' instead of amount, 'spend' instead of spent, 'Overal' instead of overall, 'accoding' instead of according, and 'clearn' instead of cleaner. Less common vocabulary is attempted but consistently misused or misspelled, such as 'refriger refrigerator ator'. These lexical inaccuracies and basic errors noticeably strain the reader and restrict the score to the lower bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple, error-prone sentences. Attempted complex constructions are consistently faulty, marked by missing auxiliary verbs, incorrect prepositions, and tense confusion (e.g., 'in 1920 refrigerator rate is o percent but 19950 refrigerator rate is 80%'). Punctuation and symbol misuse also occur, such as '!0%' instead of '10%'. Frequent structural errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader throughout the text.
