Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the prompt by describing the trends in household appliance ownership and hours of housework. However, the report omits the housework trend entirely in the body paragraphs, only mentioning it vaguely in the introduction as the 'range of years spent working at home'. Furthermore, the data interpretation contains noticeable inaccuracies, such as stating that 'no one have refrigeratior' in 1920 (the graph shows 2%), and confusing percentages with absolute numbers. While the overall trends are identified, the lack of complete coverage of both charts and imprecise data reporting place this response at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organised into multiple paragraphs, including an introduction and several body paragraphs. However, logical progression is frequently hindered by awkward phrasing and poor referencing. Transitional phrases such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Meanwhile' are used, but they fail to create a smooth, cohesive flow because the sentences within and between paragraphs lack logical connection. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas is somewhat haphazard, leading to an overall choppy structure that aligns with Band 5.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and often unnatural or misused. Examples include 'electronic instruments' instead of electrical appliances, 'buyers' instead of owners, and 'conservation' instead of percentage or figure. There are also persistent spelling and word-form errors, such as 'refrigeratior', 'vaccume', 'poppulation', 'stedily', and 'adepted'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary ('dramatically', 'marginally plunged'), the high frequency of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes restricts the score to Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 for the attempt at task-specific terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The grammatical range is quite limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that frequently contain serious errors. Examples of faulty structures include 'at starting no one have refrigeratior', 'every householdès contained', and 'from 2000, all people from particular country were using their own vacum cleaner as refrigerator'. Punctuation is also problematic, with misplaced semicolons and periods disrupting sentence boundaries. Errors are frequent and often cause strain for the reader, fitting the Band 4.0 to 4.5 profile, so a score of 4.5 is appropriate.
