Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, coming in at 143 words, which negatively impacts Task Achievement. While the student attempts an overview and mentions some trends, the information provided is somewhat inaccurate and incomplete. For instance, the overview incorrectly states that the washing machine is used less than other appliances overall, and the details regarding the refrigerator starting at zero in 1920 (it was 2%) and the description of the housework hours are imprecise and difficult to follow. The data points are often generalised incorrectly, and key comparisons between appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours are missed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is poorly paragraphed, with a very brief introduction followed by a jumbled body of text that lacks clear organisation. Cohesive devices are used minimally and mechanically, such as 'Overall, This survey compares...' and 'Acording to the given line graph, In 1920...', leading to a disjointed reading experience. There is no clear logical progression between sentences, and referencing is weak, which hinders the overall flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and repetitive. The student uses basic vocabulary such as 'changes', 'time', and 'house work', alongside numerous spelling and word-choice errors, including 'owner ships', 'hoe much', 'nations', 'utilized time', 'vacumn', and 'spemd'. There is an attempt to use less common items, but these are handled with frequent inaccuracy, which sometimes impedes communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The text displays a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of simple and awkwardly constructed complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('with zero', 'in daily life'), incorrect verb tenses and forms ('is use less', 'has used by'), and punctuation and spacing errors. These errors cause frequent difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control of English grammar.
