The line graphs illustrate the percentage of households with electrical appliances and the number of hours spent on housework per week per household in a countryfrom 1920 to 2019.

Overall, with the rise of the percentage of electrical appliances the time spent on housework decreased. There has been dramatical increase in popularity of refrigerator from 1920. Every household had the refrigerator and the vacuum cleaner by 2019.

The trend of vaccum cleaner started from 30% in 1920, rose sharply to 100% in 2000, it remained steady by the end of 2019. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons between the two graphs. An overview is provided, noting the inverse relationship between appliance ownership and time spent on housework. Key data points are cited accurately, such as the refrigerator starting near zero in 1920 and reaching 100% by 2019, and the drop in housework hours from 50 to 11. However, there are minor inaccuracies in reading specific figures (e.g., stating the refrigerator started at zero in 1920 when the graph shows 2%, and stating it skyrocketed by 2019 rather than 1980). Despite these slight descriptive slips, the overall response is well-supported and fulfills the requirements of Task 1 effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organised with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs dedicated to specific data sets. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'Overall,' 'The trend of,' and 'The refrigerator however.' Paragraphing is appropriate, separating the appliance ownership trends from the housework hours data. However, there are occasional issues with sentence-level cohesion and run-on sentences, such as '...rose sharply to 100% in 2000, it remained steady by the end of 2019,' which creates comma splices. Despite these mechanical errors in cohesion, the progression of information remains clear throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully employing terms such as 'illustrate,' 'popularity,' 'steadily,' and 'skyrocketed.' There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, though word choice and collocation are occasionally awkward, such as 'the time spent on housework' and 'the number of work devoted.' Furthermore, there is a spelling error ('vaccum' instead of 'vacuum') and a slight misuse of vocabulary ('splurged' is used inappropriately to describe a drop in hours, whereas 'plummeted' or 'dropped' would be correct). Nonetheless, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main trends clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including relative clauses and introductory phrases. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout the text, notably comma splices (e.g., '...rose sharply to 100% in 2000, it remained steady...') and missing prepositions or articles ('in a country from 1920,' 'at the start of 1920'). Additionally, subject-verb agreement and tense consistency occasionally falter. While these errors do not impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the response from achieving a higher band score for grammatical accuracy.
