Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both charts and making relevant comparisons. An overview is provided, noting the upward trend in appliance ownership and the downward trend in housework hours. Key data points are cited, such as refrigerators and vacuum cleaners reaching 100% by 2019 and housework dropping from 50 to 11 hours per week. However, there are minor inaccuracies in data reporting, such as stating housework decreased to 32% in 1940 (instead of 35 hours) and 2018 instead of 2019, and stating washing machines reached 72% in 2019 (the chart shows around 75%). Despite these slight data misreadings, the overall response covers the main trends effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing appliances and hours separately, and a concluding summary. However, paragraphing is somewhat rudimentary, and cohesion within sentences is occasionally mechanical or faulty. For instance, the transition 'Then it decreased to 32% in 1940' links ideas, but phrasing like 'washing machine was had least percentage' disrupts smooth progression. Referencing and cohesive devices are generally functional but lack flexibility and sophistication, placing this firmly in the Band 6 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'flactuated' (misspelled fluctuation), 'climbed up', and 'minimum stage'. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'flactuated', 'contains' instead of 'comprised' or 'accounted for', 'phase' instead of 'place', and 'hourse'. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a limited control of lexical features and spelling precision, which prevents the score from rising higher.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'which was the highest rank' and 'while the time spent on household activities... gradually declined.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including missing articles and prepositions (e.g., 'in household' instead of 'in households', 'was had least percentage', 'the numbering of 50 hours'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and periods. These errors occur regularly but rarely impede overall comprehension, aligning well with the Band 5.5 to 6.0 descriptors.
