Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student attempts to address both charts, providing data points for appliance ownership and housework hours. However, the selection of data is somewhat erratic and lacks a cohesive overview. For instance, the mention of refrigerators rising to 'almost 55%' in 1940 is accurate, but the description misses key comparative trends between appliances (such as vacuum cleaners starting higher than refrigerators in 1920). Furthermore, the summary of washing machines in the third paragraph is fragmented and lacks a complete sentence structure ('Washing machines owned by 70% house owners 1960...'). While main features are touched upon, the lack of an overarching summary and incomplete data tracking for certain years limits the development, placing this response at Band 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is divided into short paragraphs that attempt to group information by appliance and time period. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and poor sentence structuring. For example, paragraphs are fragmented, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as shifting abruptly between appliances without clear signposting. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate ('At last, in 2019 it reaches...'). Paragraphing is attempted, but individual paragraphs lack internal cohesion, resulting in a disjointed reading experience that aligns best with Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication but contains noticeable errors in word choice and collocation. The student uses terms like 'electrical equipments' (equipment is uncountable), 'cooling fridge', and 'dust cleaners'. There are also spelling errors such as 'owneing', 'Vaccum', and 'quit' instead of 'quite'. While attempts are made to use less common vocabulary like 'remarkable' and 'gradual fall', the inaccuracies in morphology and spelling cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptor well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple constructions and awkward attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing verbs ('The ownership of fridge equals 90% in 1960', 'Washing machines owned by 70% house owners 1960 until gradual fall'), incorrect prepositions ('spend by the household'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation is basic, and sentences such as 'From past 1920, remarkable 50 hours were spend...' demonstrate persistent structural flaws that impede clarity, warranting a Band 5.0.
