Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both charts and making appropriate comparisons. The overview captures the primary trends: appliance ownership increased significantly while housework hours decreased. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, the student states that in 2000 the washing machine ownership accounted for 100%, whereas the chart shows vacuum cleaners and refrigerators reaching 100% by 2000, while washing machines were at 70%. Additionally, some minor details are slightly misread. Nevertheless, the main trends are adequately identified and supported with data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text has a clear overall progression and is divided into logical paragraphs, starting with an introduction and overview, followed by body paragraphs detailing the appliances and housework hours. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'However', and 'In 1920', though referencing and transitions can occasionally feel slightly mechanical or abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different categories of data. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent and easy-to-follow manner.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic task, using terms like 'prevalence', 'utilization', and 'proportion'. However, there are numerous lexical and collocational errors throughout the response. Examples include 'tracks the alteration in the leverage of' instead of 'changes in the ownership of', 'time devoted in doing house chores' instead of 'time spent on housework', and 'dust cleaner' instead of 'vacuum cleaner'. Spelling mistakes like 'prevelance', 'cuntinued', 'spediture', and 'aveage' also occur, which limits the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'By the end of 2019, around all households had the facility of refrigerator and vacuum cleaner.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including 'owning these appliances by members of family significantly rose up', 'climbed up in after years', and 'the hours spent on these chores commenced at 50 and ended at 10 hours per week'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent enough to prevent a higher band.
